Director of Distribution Strategy & Financial Analysis

FilmNation Entertainment is looking for a full-time Director of Distribution Strategy & Financial Analysis to work closely with our finance, sales, production, and business affairs teams in analyzing financial investments in /distribution performance of a wide variety of film and television projects. The position will report directly to the COO but will also work closely with the CFO and various executives/departments across the company. FilmNation is a leading producer, financier, and international distributor of high-quality feature films, television series, theater, and audio/podcasts. FilmNation has intensified its focus on content creation in recent years, bringing to life award-winning box office hits that include PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, ARRIVAL, and THE BIG SICK, as well as the award-winning television show I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE. The upcoming line-up of active titles includes: high-profile comedy THE PEOPLE WE HATE AT THE WEDDING (Amazon), MISANTHROPE starring Shailene Woodley, and THE GOOD NURSE (Netflix) starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, as well as a number of television productions.

The Director will handle a full range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Distribution performance analysis – modeling various performance scenarios for individual projects/slates of projects based on assorted performance assumptions (e.g., domestic and international box office levels, MG territorial sales estimates / pre-sale levels, etc.), including forecasting of anticipated overages based on granular revenue and cost assumptions across all media
  • Preparing film & TV finance plans – building individual project greenlight models from both an ultimate and cashflow perspective, incorporating all revenue and cost elements (including detailed residuals and soft money analyses)
  • Analyzing project level collateral for banking purposes – incorporating evolving banking parameters into project cash flow plans, as well as assessing and calculating equity needs and anticipated financing/interest costs
  • General financial analysis – collaborating with our Finance & Accounting and Distribution & Royalties team to prepare bespoke financial analyses to help inform the company’s investment decisions, including formulating perspectives on project risk/reward balance
  • Business affairs advisory role – help business affairs/legal team model and analyze various talent participations / creative team deal terms under various project performance scenarios, to help inform dealmaking
  • Advising on distribution/deal strategy – based on analyses above, and general knowledge of the distribution space, formulating recommendations for Management around the most efficient distribution deal structures, distribution partners, and financing strategies
  • Business Unit Accounting – work collaboratively with the Finance & Accounting team to review the forecasts for all of our various businesses: film, US and UK television, audio/podcast, and theater
  • Business plan modeling – help build out business models for potential new ventures, corporate investments, and other assorted operational engagements for the company


  • 7+ years of accounting experience in the Entertainment industry providing financial analysis, distribution modeling, and/or strategic planning work
  • College degree, with a quantitative major preferred (e.g., economics, finance, etc.)
  • Having both film / TV experience is a plus, but significant experience in at least one of these fields is a pre-requisite
  • Advanced modeling skills (with direct distribution analysis, film/tv banking, or financial consulting experience a significant plus), including full proficiency with Excel
  • Experience advising senior executives / formulating recommendations based on analysis work
  • Ambitious self-starter with fastidious attention to detail and a desire to work in a collaborative environment with a best-in-class team
  • New York candidates are preferred, but Los Angeles-based candidates will be considered.
