Focus Features Acquires ‘Last Breath’ Starring Woody Harrelson, Finn Cole and Simu Liu — Cannes

Focus Features has acquired U.S. rights and select international territories for the upcoming thriller Last Breath, starring Woody Harrelson, Finn Cole, and Simu Liu. Directed by Alex Parkinson, the film will be distributed in the U.S. by Focus, while Universal Pictures International will handle select territories, including France, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Last Breath is an exhilarating true story inspired by the 2019 documentary of the same name, co-directed by Parkinson and Richard da Costa. The film follows an experienced deep-sea diver as he faces the elements in a final rescue mission, described as a "heart-pounding" and "gripping tale of teamwork" that takes audiences on a race against time. The screenplay was written by Mitchell LaFortune, Alex Parkinson, and David Brooks.

The film was developed by Paul and David Brooks of Longshot Films and Dark Castle Entertainment, who co-financed the project with Aperture. The producing team includes Stewart Le Maréchal, Al Morrow, Anna Mohr-Pietsch, Jeremy Plager, Hal Sadoff, Norman Golightly, and David and Paul Brooks.

This marks the latest collaboration between Paul Brooks and Focus Features, following previous projects such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 and Champions, also starring Woody Harrelson. It is reported that Paul Brooks presented the project to select buyers at Cannes.

CAA Media Finance arranged the domestic sale, while FilmNation Entertainment handled international sales.
