BAFTA Awards: ‘Conclave’ Scores Best Film as ‘The Brutalist’ Ties With Four Wins and Mikey Madison Surprises in Leading Actress

February 16, 2025

At a BAFTA Awards ceremony without a clear frontrunner, British Academy voters opted to spread the recognition across multiple films. However, when it came to the night’s top honor, Conclave emerged victorious, winning Best Film. Edward Berger’s Vatican thriller, which led the nominations with 11, ultimately tied with Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist for the most wins, securing four BAFTAs.

Conclave’s strong showing underscores its critical and commercial success, as the film continues its impressive box office run. Meanwhile, The Brutalist, a sprawling 3.5-hour American epic, claimed victories including Leading Actor for Adrien Brody and Best Director for Corbet.

One of the biggest surprises of the night came when Mikey Madison won Leading Actress for Anora, marking one of two wins for Sean Baker’s provocative sex worker comedy, including Best Casting. Many had expected Demi Moore to take the award for her performance in The Substance, which ultimately won for Makeup and Hairstyling.

With Conclave cementing its place as a major awards contender and Anora gaining recognition for its breakout lead performance, both films continue to stand out in a season full of surprises.
