Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman, Starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, to World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
July 16, 2025The Toronto International Film Festival has announced the latest additions to its 50th edition lineup, revealing a slate of world premieres from some of today’s most acclaimed filmmakers—including the debut of Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman, starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst.
Inspired by an unbelievable true story, Roofman follows Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), an Army veteran and struggling father who begins robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs—earning him the nickname “Roofman.” After escaping prison, he hides inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, living undetected as he plots his next move. But when he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mother drawn to his disarming charm, his carefully constructed double life starts to unravel, sparking a tense and emotional cat-and-mouse story as his past closes in.
Roofman will premiere in TIFF’s Gala and Special Presentations programmes, joining a lineup that also includes Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Paul Greengrass’ The Lost Bus, Nicholas Hytner’s The Choral, Hikari’s The Rental Family, and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet.
"Since its inception, TIFF has championed global cinema that opens our eyes and brings us together,” said Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer, TIFF. “We are delighted to share 11 more titles from our Gala and Special Presentations programmes that showcase the remarkable originality and excellence of today’s most exciting and acclaimed directors. These films reflect a sweeping range of voices and styles that embodies the spirit of TIFF and our commitment to a public audience."
Celebrating its milestone 50th year, TIFF will run September 4–14, 2025, with the full festival schedule to be released on August 12. Roofman opens in theaters on October 10, 2025.
