FilmNation Celebrates Strong Cannes Presence With Julia Ducournau’s Alpha

FilmNation returns to the Croisette with one title in the 78th Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection. Julia Ducournau’s Alpha will world premiere In Competition. FilmNation is handling international sales on Alpha in collaboration with Charades.

Alpha marks Ducournau’s first feature since winning the Palme d’Or for Titane, and is among 19 films selected for Competition. The lineup also features new works from Wes Anderson (The Phoenician Scheme), Richard Linklater (Nouvelle Vague), Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value), Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind), and Ari Aster (Eddington).

This year’s festival opens with Leave One Day from first-time filmmaker Amelie Bonnin—the first debut feature to open Cannes. Additional selections include Jafar Panahi’s In Simple Accident, Oliver Hermanus’s The History of Sound, and Out of Competition premieres such as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Rebecca Zlotowski’s Vie Privée, starring Jodie Foster.

Un Certain Regard features directorial debuts from Scarlett Johansson (Eleanor the Great) and Harris Dickinson (Urchin).

Robert De Niro will receive the honorary Palme d’Or on opening night, and Juliette Binoche serves as this year’s Jury President. The 2025 Cannes Film Festival runs May 13–24.
