Golshifteh Farahani & Tahar Rahim To Star In Julia Ducournau’s ‘Alpha’; Filmnation & Charades Set To Launch In Cannes

May 03, 2024

Iranian-French actress Golshifteh Farahani and French actor Tahar Rahim have been confirmed as the leading stars in Julia Ducournau’s upcoming film "Alpha," marking her third directorial venture following the Cannes Palme d’Or recipient "Titane" and her debut success "Raw."

The announcement of this exciting project was made jointly by Filmnation and Charades, with plans to kickstart sales at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The production is in capable hands, helmed by Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer of Mandarin & compagnie, alongside Jean des Forêts and Amélie Jacquis from Petit Film, in collaboration with Jean-Yves Roubin and Cassandre Warnauts from Frakas Productions.

Since Ducournau's historic win at Cannes with "Titane" in 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting her next masterpiece. Despite her busy schedule with the film's festival circuit throughout 2021 and part of 2022, Ducournau managed to direct two episodes of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "The New Look," featuring Ben Mendelsohn as Christian Dior and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel. Additionally, she participated in France’s Villa Albertine artist residency program in New York.

Much like the enigmatic nature of "Titane," details about "Alpha," including the plotline, are being kept tightly under wraps, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

“Alpha is Julia’s most personal, profound work yet, and we are looking forward to a global audience discovering the story with as much excitement as we did. We can’t wait to bring the film to market in Cannes and to launch sales together for the first time and collaborate in this way,” said Filmnation and Charades in a joint statement.
