'Stereophonic' Breaks Record With Most Tony Awards Nominations Ever For a Play

Amidst the vibrant Broadway landscape this Tony Award season, a total of 36 musicals and plays graced the stages, igniting excitement and anticipation. When Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry took to YouTube to reveal the nominations, two productions emerged as standout contenders: "Hell's Kitchen," a musical portraying the life of Alicia Keys, and "Stereophonic," a captivating blend of music and theater chronicling the journey of a Fleetwood Mac-inspired band creating an album, both garnering an impressive 13 nominations each. Close behind was "The Outsiders," a musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton's timeless novel and beloved 1983 film, alongside the revival of "Cabaret" at the Kit Kat Club, securing nine nods.

The eagerly awaited awards ceremony is slated to captivate audiences on Sunday, June 16, at 8:00 p.m. ET, with the accomplished Ariana DeBose returning as host for the third consecutive year. Broadcasting live from the prestigious Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, the event will be available for viewing on CBS or via streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
