Jack Quaid To Star In ‘Novocaine’ First Film From FilmNation’s Infrared – AFM
October 23, 2023FilmNation Entertainment's production startup, Infrared, is set to embark on its inaugural cinematic endeavor with the action thriller "Novocaine." The project boasts Jack Quaid, renowned for his role in "The Boys," as the leading actor. The film's script, penned by Lars Jacobson, will be brought to life by directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, known for their work on "Villains." With the forthcoming introduction of "Novocaine" at the American Film Market, global sales will be overseen by FilmNation Entertainment. Moreover, they will co-represent U.S. rights in collaboration with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group. The production is fully financed by Infrared, and it is scheduled to kick off in the first quarter of the upcoming year, facilitated by a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
Jack Quaid, fresh from his appearances in "Scream" and "Oppenheimer," will step into the shoes of Nathan Caine in "Novocaine." Nathan was born with a rare medical condition known as CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain), rendering him incapable of experiencing physical pain. His childhood was marked by a sheltered existence, characterized by unique coping mechanisms, such as blending his food to avoid inadvertently injuring himself and employing a timer to remind him when to use the restroom. However, the narrative takes a dramatic turn when his bank is targeted by robbers, and his newfound love is taken hostage. In an unexpected twist, Nathan's affliction transforms into his most potent asset as he embarks on a daring mission to rescue her. The character exudes elements reminiscent of Bruce Willis's persona in "Unbreakable" and a dash of Keanu Reeves's iconic role in "John Wick." The creators hold high hopes for "Novocaine," aiming to launch a potential franchise as Infrared's inaugural venture, with a lineup of exciting projects to follow.
The film's production is overseen by a team of accomplished producers, including Infrared's Drew Simon, Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, and Matt Schwartz, as well as Circle of Confusion's Josh Adler and Julian Rosenberg.
