John Goodman Joins Brie Larson In Horror Thriller ‘Skeletons’ From Sony Pictures

July 07, 2026

John Goodman has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' upcoming horror thriller Skeletons, starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson. The film is directed by JT Mollner and features an ensemble cast that also includes Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, and Daithí Ó Haragáin.

Skeletons offers a contemporary take on classic creature horror, following a young boy who gradually uncovers a terrifying family secret. As he begins to question the truth behind his seemingly ordinary home life, he discovers that his parents have been hiding the disturbing reality of his mother's true nature.

The screenplay was originally written by Brian Duffield, based on the short story by Phillip Fracassi, with revisions by Mollner. Sony Pictures acquired worldwide distribution rights earlier this year during the European Film Market, with FilmNation Entertainment, WME, and CAA handling the sale.

The film is produced by FilmNation Entertainment's Infrared label alongside Bad Robot Productions and Assemble Media. Producers include Drew Simon, J.J. Abrams, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller. Executive producers are Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Brian Duffield, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Brie Larson, and Phillip Fracassi. Infrared is financing the project.

Skeletons marks another collaboration between Goodman and producer J.J. Abrams following their work together on 10 Cloverfield Lane. Goodman also reunites with Larson after previously sharing the screen in The Gambler and Kong: Skull Island.

Goodman is widely recognized for his acclaimed performances in films including Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski, and Argo. He will next appear in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's upcoming feature Digger, starring Tom Cruise.
