Richard Gere and Diana Silvers to Star in Asymmetry
July 06, 2026
Richard Gere (Oh, Canada, Chicago) and Diana Silvers (Booksmart, Ma) are set to star in Asymmetry, the feature adaptation of Lisa Halliday's critically acclaimed debut novel. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Zwick (Glory, Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai) directs from a screenplay by Zwick, Halliday, and Marshall Herskovitz.
Asymmetry follows Alice, a young editorial assistant, and Ezra, a celebrated author, whose chance encounter sparks a deeply personal relationship that challenges their assumptions about love, ambition, and the expectations placed upon them by the world around them. As their private connection grows, both are forced to confront the consequences of living a life outside convention.
Published in 2018, Halliday's debut novel received widespread critical acclaim and was named one of The New York Times' most remarkable books of the 21st century.
Director Edward Zwick said, "Like so many others, I was charmed by Lisa's book—not just because it's emotional, insightful, and very funny, but because it's about two people who discover that what the world calls asymmetry can, in fact, have another name: love."
Author Lisa Halliday added, "It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Ed and Marshall on transposing Alice and Ezra's story for the screen. I am enormously grateful to them for their humor, ingenuity, courage, compassion, and dedication."
Stacey Snider, Chief Creative Officer at FilmNation Entertainment, and Clay Pecorin, Co-Founder and Partner at Rainmaker Films, added, "Asymmetry tells an unconventional love story that explores an improbable connection between two people at very different stages in their lives, challenging their—and our—preconceptions about love and power."
Production is currently underway in New York City.
