December 20, 2023

Johan Renck’s Netflix sci-fi drama “Spaceman,” starring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano, and German filmmaker Julia von Heinz’s “Treasure” – formerly titled “Iron Box” – with Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry, are among high-profile titles set to launch from the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

The Berlinale, scheduled to reveal its competition lineup on January 22, has disclosed its lineup of Berlinale Special titles, which also features Tilman Singer's horror film "Cuckoo," starring Hunter Shafer, John Malkovich, and Gemma Chan from "Crazy Rich Asians."

Additional films slated for Berlinale Special screenings include the world premiere of David and Nathan Zellner's "Sasquatch Sunset," starring Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg, initially premiering at Sundance. Atom Egoyan's "Seven Veils," starring Amanda Seyfried, which debuted in Toronto without the cast, is also part of the lineup.

Artistic director Carlo Chatrian expressed delight in welcoming back directors with prior festival contributions, emphasizing the inclusion of new works by Julia von Heinz and Tilman Singer, both featuring American stars. The Berlinale Special will also showcase the Zellner brothers' irreverent comedy, "Sasquatch Sunset," and the D'Innocenzo brothers' dark universe in their first series, "Dostoevsky." Additionally, master filmmakers Atom Egoyan and Tsai Ming-liang will present their latest works, "Seven Veils" and "Abiding Nowhere," respectively.

The Berlinale Special will consist of a total of 20 titles, with the finalized roster expected in mid-January.
