Prime Video has announced The House of the Spirits, an upcoming eight-episode Original series based on Isabel Allende’s best-selling novel of the same name. With over 70 million copies sold, the novel is hailed as one of the most significant works of the 20th century and was previously adapted into a film in 1993. Isabel Allende and Eva Longoria will serve as executive producers, alongside showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood.

The series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The international cast features Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8, Ozark), Dolores Fonzi (Blondi, Somos Belén), Nicole Wallace (Culpa Mía, Skam), Juan Pablo Raba (Narcos, News of a Kidnapping), Fernanda Castillo (El Señor de los Cielos, Isla Brava), among others, with more names to be announced.

Set in Chile and filmed entirely in Spanish, the series is being produced by FilmNation, the team behind the recent Palme d’Or winner (Anora, Promising Young Woman), with the support of Fabula, the Chilean production company known for its Academy Award-winning films (The Eternal Memory, A Fantastic Woman).

The House of the Spirits is a sweeping family saga that chronicles the lives of the Trueba family, exploring themes of love, power, and revolution over a century of social upheaval. The story culminates in a dramatic conflict that pits the proud, tyrannical patriarch against his beloved granddaughter, with each finding themselves on opposite sides of a political divide.

“My first novel The House of the Spirits has been in print out in the world for 40 years, and now it will be a wonderful series on Amazon with Eva Longoria leading a dream creative team. I hope everyone enjoys it,” said Isabel Allende, the author of the original novel and an executive producer of the series.

“It’s a dream come true for us to bring The House of the Spirits to life for audiences around the world,” said Javiera Balmaceda, head of Local Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Amazon Studios. “From the inception, our goal has been to celebrate Allende’s literary masterpiece by featuring brilliant Latin American talent, both in front of and behind the camera, and by taking a groundbreaking approach to the story. We’re honored to accompany viewers on an unforgettable journey into the world of the Trueba family, navigating tumultuous relationships and the revolutionary backdrop of their lives.”

We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of such an ambitious adaptation of her seminal novel The House of the Spirits and to be working alongside an international team of award-winning artists coming together with a shared passion and deep connection to the novel,” said FilmNation CEO Glen Basner and SVP Television and Executive Producer Courtney Saladino in a joint statement.
